Fukushima plant “to keep contaminating the Pacific Ocean for the rest of time” if fuel can’t be removed — No good solution, must constantly pump out water from under buildings

Arnold Gundersen with another update on the unfolding effects of the Fukushima disaster

Arnie Gundersen

This week, Dr. Caldicott brings on nuclear engineer Arnold Gundersen to update readers on the unfolding effects of the Fukushima meltdowns and what is happening with nuclear power in other parts of the world. Longer show description to follow. As background, listen to earlier conversations with Gundersen (starting with April 1, 2011), which can be found on the Archives page.

Read the August 2012 news articles Study: Fukushima Nuclear Disaster Caused Mutant Butterflies and Grassroots Power Pushing Japan Towards Nuclear-Free Future . And visit Fairewinds.org, the website of Gundersen’s organization, for more information.

This is not the Fukushima Radiation Map from April 2011. This is the Map from today. Looking good, Godzilla! (Godzilla was a monster who was the kids symbol for radiation). The ten year forecast for the the USA, especially California, is for 10 times the radiation that the Japanese suffer from in Fukushima proper. This bad news will continue to get worse here in California regardless of whether Diablo Canyon blows or whether we decommission San Onofre or not. When San Onofre goes, we can forget about people in Los Angeles for 500 or more years. We may have to write off LA for 25,000 years. So how inexpensive is Nuclear Power? Ask Willie Brown! He works for PG&E. Maybe Willie will tell you as much truth as you can guess your getting out of his Acting Mayor Lee.

As you watch, you will see the forecast for the next ten years for California.

Here is what the radiation off California will look like by 2017. This means we can forget any commercial fishing. If there are any more living fish, whales, or any other kind of Marine life remaining, it will not be fit for consumption. The fog and rain will have contaminated all of the Central Valley. Down-winders? Who knows. Fukushima was one Nuclear Plant. General Electric built 23 more in the USA, that are all just like Fukushima. We have 100 times the spent fuel here in the USA than Japan has in all of Japan. And that reactor at #4? The US and Japanese Governments are lying to us - worse than Mayor Lee under oath! Reactor #4 was making weapons grade plutonium for Israel. It’s a mess. These forecast maps may only be one one thousandth as deadly as the situation really is. Already, if #4 goes in the next 18 to 36 months, life on earth is over for mankind. This is the true cost of nuclear power. So next time Willie Brown tells you PG&E are the good guys, you may as well give him an knuckle sandwich, as your thanks for the Texas advice!

Fukushima disaster ‘man-made’, report states. A Global Tsunami of Litigation against all Nuclear Power Plants just began. It’s on the way!

Japanese authorities Thursday blamed human error for the nuclear meltdown at the Fukushima Daiichi plant last year, a Japanese parliamentary panel said Thursday. The detailed report stated, “It is clear that this accident was a man-made disaster.”

This finding by the Japanese Government is the door opener to liability to any General Electric designed nuclear power plant.

Sue the bastards!

The most evil thing to come out of Chernobyl was not Plutonium, it was Lies.

Very few of you know who my friend Kevin Blanch is. He sued the US Government decades ago, to get the data on the first nuclear bomb tests, which killed his Father, a US Marine. This is no joke. Those photos of the first US Nuclear bombs and the Nevada Tests of US Soldiers are with us in the public record because Kevin Blanch wanted to see what killed his Dad. No shit!

If you doubt for a minute, what a small group of people can do to effect and affect change, you are lost. One person can do it! One! So what are you waiting for? Do you need a note from your Dad? Here….

I give you permission to organize your self and get out there and make a difference. I give you permission to matter. Now go make some news of your own!

Get on now! It won’t ruin you.

Pig Pen used to say -

"Get your hands out of your pockets and turn on your love light! Go on now. Get up and dance. It won’t ruin you."

We need everybody on deck now. Change is here. Let’s show em what change looks like!

Top Scientist: Fukushima Meltdown Could Trigger Atomic Explosion

Dr. Helen Caldicott continues to challenge notions that nuclear power is the answer to global warming today. This event takes inspiration from her work, as well as Richard Misrach’s and Kate Orff’s collaborative publication Petrochemical America, a photographic and graphic investigation of the cultural, physical, and economic ecologies of a 150-mile stretch of the Mississippi River from Baton Rouge to New Orleans known as “Cancer Alley.”

How do demands for energy and economic efficiency affect population health? By caring for the planet and its people in different ways, what can doctors and designers learn from each other? Click here to view the video.

Chris Busby: the Forsmark nuclear waste Repository plan
For more information visit

The future of nuclear energy depends on the industry finding somewhere to put the high level waste. This is radioactive for millions of years and must be isolated from the environment. The hitherto intractable problem was apparently solved by the Swedish nuclear industry who proposed a plan to encapsulate it in copper canisters and bury it in tunnels 500m underneath the Baltic sea at Forsmark. The full environmental impact report was released last year; the government requirements are that the company SKB show that the waste will not emerge from the canisters between 100,000 years and 1 million years. After studying the report in detail it became clear that the design was flawed because it did not include consideration of the Helium gas produced from the alpha emitters. The volume of gas in each canister would cause it to explode long before 100,000 years resulting in the contamination of the Baltic Sea by the equivalent of 2000 Chernobyl accidents. Back to the drawing Board guys!

This is my sixth column about the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident […] this one looks forward to the next Japanese nuclear accident, which will probably take place at the same location.

That accident, involving nuclear fuel rods, is virtually inevitable, most likely preventable, and the fact that it won’t be prevented comes down solely to Japanese government and Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) incompetence and stupidity.

May 16, 2012: Over 12% of Americans alive right now will die because of Fukushima. That is over 40 million Americans alive now, will die as a direct result of the radiation from Fukushima, that has already been released. If (when) the spent fuel pond at Reactor #4 fails, and what all of nuclear physics as an Academic Field warns the world of, and the huge contamination of planet earth takes place, we will all die, because of Fukushima.

There is a news black out in the USA because of President Obama.

‘We are living through the worst public health scandal in history’ — 60 million developed cancer from nuclear weapons tests and government data backs it up.

In the videos below, acclaimed nuclear industry scientist Dr. Chris Busby says we are living in the worst public health scandal in history proclaiming that 60 million people have developed cancer from radioactive fallout due to nuclear weapons tests.

Busby will surely be attacked for his statements by nuclear apologists but the truth be told the US government’s own data goes along way toward substantiating Busby’s claims.

To be precise, Busby claims 60 million cancers due to the radiation fallout from nuclear weapons test while US government data shows a slightly lower number of cancers – about 40 million cancers – due to background radiation in the United States. At the same time that same government data shows  132.76 million will get cancer in the United States and nearly 70 million of those people will die.

What is in dispute here is the margin of error between the governments 40 million cancers due to radiation versus Busby’s research showing 60 million and I am inclined to accept Busby’s research over the government’s which is clearly influences by the nuclear industry along with lobbyists from other special interests groups.

But what the government won’t admit is that the so-called “background radiation” is largely the result of nuclear weapons tests and those levels are  orders of magnitudes higher in the United States than in nations in the Southern hemisphere of earth.

You can verify this for yourself by viewing real-time US government radiation readings from all major cities in the US.

Is Background Radiation Safe? Find out how many people in the US will get cancer and die from it.

According to the NJ Department of Environmental Protection Literature 43% of all people will develop cancer in their life time and 22% of all people with die from the cancer.

The EPA has estimated that the additional lifetime risk associated with drinking water that contains 30 ug/L, the MCL for uranium, is about 1 in 10,000. This means that if 10,000 persons were to consume two liters of this water per day for 70 years, we might expect to see one additional fatal cancer in the 10,000 people exposed. This increased risk should be viewed in the context of current cancer statistics.

According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 4,300 people in 10,000 will develop cancer at some point in their lifetimes and approximately 2,200 of the 10,000 eventually will die of cancer. Consuming drinking water containing uranium at the MCL permitted under the Safe Drinking Water Act might increase the number of deaths in the 10,000 individuals so exposed by one.

Source: NJ DEP

With background radiation accounting for 30% of all cancers 1290 people in every 10,000 people, or about 1 in 8 people,  will develop cancer from “safe” background radiation. Further more  and 660 people in every 10,000 people, or almost one out of every 15 people, will die from the cancer developed from background radiation.

Making sense out of all of the numbers:

In flat percentages:

43% of people in US will develop cancer
22% of people in US will die from cancer
12.9% of people in US will develop cancer from background radiation
6.6% of people in US will die from cancer caused by background radiation.

Let’s put that into a national perspective. The 2010 US census counted a little more that 300 million people living in the United states. Using the numbers above:

EventPercent Of PopulationEstimated Affected US PopulationDevelop Cancer43%132.76 millionDeath From Cancer22%67.92 millionCancer From Background Radiation12.9%39.82 millionDeath From Background Radiation Cancer6.6%20.37 million

*Note: Final Population Estimates where rounded DOWN to the nearest integer of 2 with a precision of two decimal points.  So a precise number of estimated deaths will actually be slightly higher than the numbers I provided.

I am sure if I made any errors in my calculations I will be notified. I also source the current literature as provided by government officials and respected, trusted medical organizations. I could have chosen other numbers which would have shown the cancer rates from background radiation to be even higher
